After seeing the Jeddo Coal #85 last weekend at the LM&M, some friends and I were talking about the Gramling Brothers locomotive fleet. They have 5 locomotives:
- Flagg Coal Co. 0-4-0T #75
- Jeddo Coal Co. 0-4-0T #85
- Lehigh Valley Coal 0-6-0T #126
- Coronet Phosphate 0-4-2T #7
- Cypress Co. 2-6-0 #18

I know they suffered a tragic loss last year, so I’d imagine they’re behind on some things. Does anyone know the statuses on any of the 5? 85 is obviously operational. 75 has been down several years waiting for the 1,472, but I see no reason they’ll prioritize it with 85 running. I was told the 0-4-2T was being restored with the 2-6-0 to follow, but I haven’t seen any recent updates.

If you were there last week, you should have stopped and talked to Barney directly. He would have been more than happy to update you on the status of all the "Father & Son" owned locomotives.

The 75 is top priority to get running.
The 2-6-0 restoration will follow the 75's 1,472

If I were a betting man, Id expect to see the 75, 85 & 126 running together in the not too distant future.

I'll be down at KY Steam Heritage in a few weeks with a cab ride on the 85, so I may ask about 75's progress when I'm down there. Here's the status as I know of:

- 75: 1,472-day overhaul (not sure how far they've progressed)
- 85: Operational
- 126: Operational, but down for repairs. I don't think it's a 1,472 yet
- 7: It's listed as under restoration, but I haven't seen any photos of progress
- 18: Some work has been done. As mentioned, it will follow 75

If I'm not mistaken, the Gramlings are father (John) and son (Barney), aren't they?

Think you’re right. I’ve talked to them and they’re friendly and knowledgeable (only person I heard complaining, over several railfests and fairs, had stuck his nose in while they were very, very busy.) They’ll answer your questions and then some.

I'm going to go on record as saying that they not only are super nice folks, but I look up to the Gramlings as an example of how to be courteous to others. I just hope I can follow it in my personal dealings.
