Hey all,

I'm curious as to how the actual forging of the return bends was done obviously, they were upset forged, but I'm really intrigued as too how the process was done in further detail. Has anybody ever seen photos or video of the process or dies.

Trying to remember which one of the books in my collection has the diagrams showing the forging process for these.... if I find it will post here.

Nowadays the return bends and other pieces are cast and welded to the superheater tubes to make a complete unit.

When we restored 1522, we had the new bends investment cast in steel, welded to the tubes. Worked like a champ.
