Post subject:  The Passing of "Heavenrich"

From the August 2022 edition of the D.C. NRHS newsletter, The Timetable:

Quote:
We Remember. . .
Robert M. Heavenrich, Jr., of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was a long-time member of the NRHS, the Washington D.C. and Blue Water Chapters. He was a frequent train rider and outstanding photographer. He also served as financial comptroller for the NRHS Board of Directors for over 30 years.

Bob was born January 22nd, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late Dr. Robert and Emily Heavenrich. Bob was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, Lawrence University, and Western Michigan University, where he met his wife Diane of 49 years while studying for his master’s degree in physics. Bob worked for the federal government at agencies in Battle Creek and Washington, D.C., completing his career with the EPA at the Office of Transportation and Air Quality in Ann Arbor.

Bob Heavenrich was a longtime member of the DC Chapter. He and his wife Diane joined in 1978. Bob Bitzer remembers the time they worked on the 1979 NRHS convention held in Washington DC that was hosted by the DC Chapter. As NRHS Treasurer, Bob Bitzer worked closely with him during when Heavenrich was NRHS Comptroller.

All in DCNRHS remember him fondly for his friendship and dedication to the work of the Society and to its operation.

Bob’s hobbies overlapped to include a love of history, photography, and anything having to do with trains, especially riding excursions pulled by a steam or a rare diesel locomotive.
