I am assisting Joel Salomon by posting his FB query here.
Quote:

Helping generate captions to clean up a photo display that we made years ago [at Rockhill Trolley Museum]. Dave Galp dug the photo boards out of storage for reuse. Many of the captions are unreadable so we are making new. We came across this photo mounted on one of the boards. Does anyone have any knowledge on where this photo is taken?

I helped make the photo display way back in the early 1980's but can't remember where we got this photo from or where it is taken.

This old newspaper ad mentions a Old Trolley Flower Shop on Route 6 in Mahopac, New York, but doesn't give an address.

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/lccn/ ... -1/seq-29/

Another ad says their phone number was 628-4353.

This photo has intrigued several knowledgeable folks in the community. Evidently it is a semi-convertible, possibly a Robertson/St. Louis car, with a centered retriever, and a peculiar narrow roof mounted illuminated destination signbox (the latter two items being rather to very unsual). Frank Hicks has noted several discoveries of the evidence at Mahopac by Googlers reporting on FB (and also hearing from Norm Krentel of IRM) and this narrowed his search. He corresponded with Jeff Hakner of BERA about electric railways near Mahopac (there were none in that town itself) and Danbury came up.

He is rather certain the car came from the Danbury & Bethel Street Railway. A photo can be found at this link of a semiconvertible numbered 10 in front of the D&B carbarn.

Jeff Hakner discovered from the Branford files the attached photo of a Danbury open car that better shows the sign box.

A copy of that photo has been on ebay within the past year or so, and was listed as either being a Scranton trolley, or having been taking in Scranton, Pa. I'll post a link if I can find it.

I don't have the original link or caption but I did save the photo, which is a different shot.

I did find the original listing. It had a handwritten notation of “Scranton, PA, diner” and a processing date of 1948. I can’t confirm the location. I’ve been told there was a trolley diner near the old Capitol Records plant in the city but have never seen a photo attributed to it.

Scranton Railway Co. did use roof mounted sign boxes for several years. If I find a photo with a similar design, I’ll post it.

Any idea where the location was on Rt 6 in Mahopac? There is a Shell sigh in the background of the “Scranton” photo.

This is just speculation, but if the Shell station has remained in the same location that would put the flower shop where the UPS Store is now.

Interestingly, the UPS Store looks like a few different buildings cobbled together, and two parts are the same shape as the greenhouse and barn in the photos, just with modern siding and asphalt roofs.

S70Dude,

Thanks for the Google coordinates. I was able to get a screenshot of the former flower shop building. It looks like the car body was replaced by a new lobby for the UPS store at some point.

Looks to me as if the trolley was 'removed' when the road was widened. Someone might be able to track down when that happened.
