Houghton, Michigan - After operating at the Houghton County Historical Society since circa 1969, in 2019, a severe leak was discovered when filling the boiler of Lake Linden & Torch Lake Railroad (LL&TL RR) 3. LL&TL RR 3 was immediately removed from service. Since then, this locomotive has been idle, awaiting the raising of funds necessary to effect the required boiler repairs.

Lake Linden & Torch Lake Railroad 3, is the last one to have operated in the western Upper Peninsula since Clint Jones’ Keweenaw Central Railroad made its last excursion on October 10, 1971. The LL&TL RR, even at less than a half-mile in length, is the last remaining operating railroad in Houghton or Keweenaw counties, Michigan.

• Lake Linden & Torch Lake Railroad 3, 0-4-0ST (H.K. Porter, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 5649 / 1915), originally Calumet & Hecla Mining 3.
