I see they are listed again, 4 units for sale as a lot, contact phone number is in California and the units are in Utah so this add says.

https://www.ironplanet.com/for-sale/Rail-Equipment-Lot-of-%284%29-EMD-SD40-3-Locomotives-Utah/5608972?h=5000%2Cc%7C1724%2Cmode%7C2&rr=0.2&hitprm=&pnLink=yes

Not much information on the seller/broker. They are involved in a lot of equipment flips. Good, bad or unknown people.

Among the 4 locomotives in this group, the one that stands out to me is HLCX 6064, which was delivered as PRR SD40 6087, later PC 6087, CR 6340. The photos on the auction site show the after market electrical cabinet that earned the -3.

Here is a nice photo of PRR 6087: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4527897

I don't have a full population report handy, but I know that the number of PRR units surviving from the last orders made before the merger is smaller than what one would think as various U-boats and SD45s were retired and scrapped in the 1980s.

Dash 3s always make me nervous. Typically older. Otherwise if they are newer, parts are a lot harder to find yet. Standard SD40-2 parts are everywhere. You want to find any dash 3 computer parts. Good luck. Supply chain crisis has really put a lock down on those.

Since they are older units, as mentioned above, parts may be easier to find. But how wore out are they? The last dash 3s that I helped rebuild went way over budget, beyond any guesstimate on how bad things could be. And the ones I helped on were in service within the last 3 years. Granted my crew doesn’t enjoy making them perfect. As long as they are reliable and haul freight, pass all FRA required inspections, ship em. Little rust, paint flaws etc won’t hurt none. If it looks good from 40 feet, at 40mph it’s good enough.
