The CMRR recently released its expansion proposal to run on the remaining 1.67 miles of track between Stony Hollow and West Hurley, NY:

The plan has been endorsed by the three townships the extension runs through: Hurley, Kingston, and Ulster.

I , for one, have certainly missed Ed's regular reports of progress at the CMR.

The CMRR began its Catskill Christmas Express, our Covid-19 substitute for Polar Express. Passengers are all on open flat cars:

Great video! At first I thought people drive on the other side of the road back east but I see the video is running in reverse!

The CMRR wrapped up its season on December 23rd. Ridership was over 23,000 this year, much higher than last year's 13,007. Our non-Christmas ridership went from 11,216 to nearly 19,000 in 2021. Our Polar substitute, the Catskill Christmas Express had nearly 5000 riders in 2021, though nothing compared to the 29,500 we had for Polar in 2019.

Most important the Ulster County legislature extended our permit by another 2 years on a strong 17-5 vote. It will now go through December 31, 2023. We will keep working on our track extension plans in 2022.

All in all, we had a very good year despite Covid. Our six open air flat cars really saved the day. We look forward to a great 2022.

What is the status of the land locked equipment in Phoenicia? Does it ever have a chance of being used again?

Three passenger flat cars were brought to Kingston over the past two years.

The remaining passenger equipment (Alco S-1 407, 2 EL coaches) will be brought down once we have built a secure yard to store them in.

The Phoenicia work train (work caboose, work flat, side dump and CMRR no. 1) will likely stay in PA for now. Engine 29 is for sale, and our remaining EL coach is under restoration, so will stay, and the LH box car which is our shop will also stay).
