Post subject:  New Colebrookdale email today about steam
And today I got an email from Colebrookdale with this info:

edit: I liked their tie-in about steel from foundries along the Colebrookdale being used to construct locomotives like the 5030, even though they probably only made iron, not steel. Not sure how one could verify that, but an interesting tie-in. I guess maybe Baldwin has records that could show suppliers.

That's my 1951 photo of 5030 that Colebrookdale used in their "STEAM RETURNS!" poster, though they never asked me about using it.

Add LS&I No. 18 to the list of steam bound for Colebrookdale. Link is taken from the Facebook post, so I’ll assume it works... I do reserve the right to be wrong though.

I KNEW that I had seen that photo somewhere before! Thanks for the reminder. Sorry to hear that the folks at Colebrookdale didn't have the decency to ask if they could use your photo.

I don’t know if #18 would require anything other than a 1472 to operate. Probably sits in good condition unless I’m told otherwise. If that’s the case, I think it’s a good choice for the organization, the main difficulty would be logistics in shipping it from Alamosa to Pennsylvania.

Good compliment to the 5030 too, which likely needs a lot of work to get running again.

Les -- they did ask, after seeing my post, and I gladly gave them permission plus a higher-resolution copy. (They had picked up my photo from an unknown source.) They also offered to give me another ride in 5030's cab when she is operational again!

I'm sure it's difficult, but not impossible. FEC #148 was transported from Monte Vista, CO to Clewiston, FL. via rail.

No. 18 is toward the end of it's 15 years, not able to operate after July 2022. It has 584 service days.

The wife and I met some friends who live in Jackson, Michigan for lunch earlier this week and they asked me about GTW # 5030 that is in a park not too far from their home. They stated that they had read that the engine was going to be moved but had not heard anything lately and nothing seems to be going on with the engine. They are obviously not railroad fans but thought that the engine looked "shabby" and had hoped the earlier news meant someone was going to do something about it. I told them I had not heard anything recently but would see what I could find out. Anyone have an update on this Grand Trunk Western 4-6-2?

If I remember correctly, Colebrookdale said 5030 would be moved in 3-5 years. I know there was some drama from surrounding communities about the locomotive being moved but those same people did absolutely nothing to help the 5030 over the 60+ years she has been on display since her donation to the city of Jackson.
