Kumamoto – A steam locomotive inspired by the train featured in the animated movie of the popular "Demon Slayer" manga series began its first run Sunday in Kyushu.

The train operated by Kyushu Railway Co., which will run for a limited time from Kumamoto Station in Kumamoto Prefecture to JR Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture, is a model from around 100 years ago — the period in which the series and movie is set.

Titled "Demon Slayer — Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train," the movie centers on the hero Tanjiro Kamado's efforts to save the lives of passengers aboard the "Mugen Train," named after the Japanese word for infinity, on which countless people have gone missing.

The steam-hauled sightseeing train SL Hitoyoshi, which had remained out of operation due to heavy rain in July, has been furnished to replicate the train featured in the movie, with the characters for mugen embossed on its front carriage.

Original merchandise will be sold on board the train, with commemorative goods presented to passengers dressed up in traditional Japanese wear typical of the Taisho Era (1912-1926) in which the series is set.

Just so you understand: This is a movie that has shattered all Japanese box-office records for attendance and box-office take in spite of the pandemic:

Now, imagine if we Americans had a movie plot that tied in this successfully with rail preservation--such as the "Hogwarts Train" in Britain......... sadly, it seems the closest we've gotten to this was the abomination that was 1999's "Wild, Wild West" with Will Smith, starring the B&O Museum's 4-4-0 "William Mason".........
According to IMDB.com: "Though a box-office failure in the U.S. (it managed to turn a profit overseas), it's commonly joked that the only reason this movie earned any money at all is because unaccompanied minors would buy tickets to this movie, then use them to sneak into screenings of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) and American Pie (1999). What about "Tough Guys", with a very colorful orange and yellow steam engine? Or, the Polar Express? And most successful, the little blue "Thomas the Bank Engine"!
