No, really.

https://www.wate.com/news/historic-doll ... -reported/

Quote:
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WATE) – Dollywood is investigating after one of the historic steam engines of the Dollywood Express train caught fire Sunday.

According to a Dollywood spokesperson, Engine No. 70 was in a maintenance area around 8 p.m. Sunday when a small fire started from grease on the left side of the engine. Out of an abundance of caution, the County Fair area of the park and Rockin’ Roadway attraction were closed.

The fire was put out quickly and no one was injured.

According to dollyparton.com, the No. 70 engine is known as “Cinderella” and was built in 1938 by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The engine served in Alaska during World War II, transporting troops and lumber on various missions across what would become the 49th U.S. State.

Engine No. 70 was being prepared for future service so it was not scheduled to be run anyway, a Dollywood spokesperson said. A wheel bearing is out on Engine No. 192, known as “Klondike Katie,” so there will be no train in operation at Dollywood on Monday.

“We are working to repair Engine 192 to get it back into service as soon as we can, hopefully Wednesday, our next operating day,”

70 is ex-WP&Y 2-8-2 (BLW 1938 C/N 62234) and is sister engine to WP&Y 73 which is still in service at Skagway. Gauge is 3' 0" (914 mm)

192 is ex-US Army S118 2-8-2 (BLW 1943 C/N 69427) also ex-WP&Y.

Since we are just stating facts for some reason I will add that #192’s sister the #190 is operational at the Tweetsie Railroad in North Carolina.

To get specific the locomotives were operated as WP&YR for White Pass & Yukon Route.

I have seen a number of writers call it the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. But there were actually three underlying railroad companies that were then operated as the White Pass & Yukon Route. This name is what was displayed on the equipment of the operation.

I was wondering where the “route” came from.

The "Route" is part of its long-time operating and marketing name. The thee owning companies were set up for each political jurisdiction in which the rail line was located.
Pacific and Arctic Railway and Navigation Company (in Alaska)
British Columbia Yukon Railway Company (in British Columbia)
British Yukon Railway Company (in Yukon [Territory])
The ownership of these have always been held by one holding company. The name and nationality of the holding company has changed over the years.

Our engines catch fire every day. For a locomotive with a steel cab, starting it on fire outside of the firebox is quite an accomplishment.
