Crap. I didn't realize the turntable had been removed. Yikes. Looking forward to what you guys do with this product of the Lima Locomotive Works.

Rob, where are you seeing that it was removed?

Unless it was a hallucination or hyperealistic dream, I rode that turntable around in circles a few times just last month, August 2021, so can confirm that no, it has not been removed, and is in fact in full operation .

Now you can discuss the GE ex-Army/Air Force switchers from the nearby Union Tank Car plant behind it.

I can confirm the turntable is there and in working order. It's been restored and repainted and is in use for tours.

I am so glad to be proven wrong! Are there any tracks still going into the various roundhouse stalls? In the pics of 4420 inside, I couldn't quite tell for sure.

No; in fact I'm not even sure there's still a track onto the turntable, at least that can be used.

4420 was obviously trucked/wheeled into position in its stall.

So this brings up the obvious (at least to me it is) question: any plans to lay track to the table and ON the table so the engine can be moved about and displayed, turned, etc. ? Is there anyplace it can go to run from this location?
Interesting that the table is functioning, but not connected. . .???? Also interesting how far it is from the round house.

Track as I know has been on the table for a long while now

To the table? I’ve seen plans showing tracks in various places would be laid from a few bays. But I can’t speak for Evanston group.

There is track on the turntable and also track from the turntable to all 28 stalls in the roundhouse. Unfortunately, most of that track is not currently usable. When 4420 was put in the roundhouse it had to be pushed on track donated by UP and the track had to be greased because the wheels don't currently turn.

A statement on that web site claims that the State of California has "outlawed" operation of steam locomotives in the state. If that statement is true, I certainly missed the news and the hubbub it caused.

This curious steam fan in the mid-west wants to know: mistake on the web site, actuality, or something between the two?

A more careful reading would show that it says California has outlawed COAL BURNING steam locomotives, not steam locomotives in general. Think about the amusement park locomotives alone- Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, etc. still up and running, not to mention full size operations like the Sierra and Roaring camp and others. . . While I can't verify the coal ban myself, it certainly wouldn't surprise me considering they just banned new internal combustion engines starting in 2035 https://www.google.com/amp/s/arstechnic ... e/%3famp=1
