PostPosted: Tue Sep 29, 2020 7:20 pm

SRLX #15405 has completed its journey to Age of Steam Roundhouse and will be added to the list of freight cars to be restored to their original livery.
Trucking was handled by Zemba Brothers Inc. of Zanesville, Ohio from Pennsylvania on September 24, 2020 to the Roundhouse.

Swift Refrigerator Lines #15405 was built in May 1954 by the General American Transportation and leased to SRLX.
After its retirement it was donated to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum and used for storage until it was acquired by AOSR in 2018.

We are grateful that Pennsylvania Trolley Museum kept this car is such good condition over the years and how they worked closely with AOSR to
ensure the future of this reefer for generations to come.

My son and I spent part of a weekend freeing up a brake beam and otherwise doing a brake test on this car and two other reefers that the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum had used for storage for many years. The interesting thing is they were all built in 1954, and the Swift reefer was ice cooled and the others were mechanical reefers. The Swift car had to be one of the last ice cooled reefers built. The whole adventure took quite a while, but the car was handed off to a P&OC crew for it's last trip on a common carrier. PTM's venerable 1930 Armco Steel B-73 Baldwin-Westinghouse diesel handed the car off over the interchange track. It's in a good place can't wait to see it painted!
