The Jeffris Family Foundation has announced a one-third challenge grant of $275,000 toward restoration of the Keokuk Union Depot's waiting room and train shed. The remaining $550,000 of the $825,000 project is to be raised by mid-2023 in a Capital Campaign. Included in this phase of the restoration will be reproducing the waiting room's tiled floor, installation of period chandeliers, renovation of the rest rooms with period fixtures, shoring up the building's foundation to prevent further deterioration, and refinishing the train shed and restoring its period lighting. Contributions that count toward the match may be sent to the Keokuk Union Depot Foundation, P.O. Box 463, Keokuk, IA 52632. This rendering of the future restoration project was created by Matthew Martin for the principal contractor, Restoric LLC of Chicago.

The Depot serves as a community event center, hosting private events including weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions, class reunions, graduation parties, showers, anniversaries, and group or business meetings. Public events at the Depot have included concerts, book signings, auctions, and art exhibits.

In connection with the new capital campaign, we have updated our four-page brochure describing the Depot and the restoration project. These images show the outside and inside of the brochure.

Richard -

Beautifully done brochure. Hope the new Capital Campaign goes well.

Seeing the brochure photo of the Mark Twain Zephyr in front of the Keokuk Depot got me to thinking of the rehabilitation of the Zephyr that is currently ongoing at the Wisconsin Great Northern Railway. They seem to be making very steady progress. Would be nice to see the Keokuk photo replicated. Of course, I can't speak for the folks at the Wisconsin Great Northern, and their future plans are probably different, but it's nice to know that such a possibility DOES at least exist!
