Saw a photo on the Ahead of the Torch website showing that one of the 40' steel ex-U.S. Navy boxcars, has been brought into the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley shops and replicated as C&O #4253. Hopefully someone will post a photo of the newly restored car here on RyPN.

I remember an old B&W TV program back in the 50s named "You asked for it". I'm not Art Baker but here a link to the D&GVRR Restorations Facebook page. Just scroll down a little ways and there are before/after photos of this replication. Lots of restoring going on down in Cass including the long-dormant Cass to Durbin line that was washed out in 1985.

Thanks for posting the link. And yes, I remember the old "You Asked For It" TV show.

Off-topic, but

I still remember a segment on one of their shows that still gives me the creeps. It has been shown on other shows as well.

The next 40-foot boxcar has entered the Cass track shop to be prepped for paint. We'll announce the scheme it will be receiving soon.

Here is a small hint... the primary color will be black."

Glad to see that another car is in the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley shops. But, I thought these were ex-U. S. Navy boxcars? I can almost (but not quite) read the reporting marks and road number on this car, but it doesn't quite look like U. S. Navy. Were these on some other railroad after their government careers? Would like info if available.

BTW, my guess is a black SP "Overnight" scheme, which is steam-era I believe.
