Hi all,

Another project that I have never had to deal with before.

On Amtrak heritage cars they use heat strips. I am working on one is shot. While I am in there replacing, I am going to replace all.

Searching around on the Internet does not return any usable info.

Details of the units are Vapor # 1796739-01 heat strips. Amtrak wired 3 in series powered by 480 VAC.

Anyone have any experience finding a replacement for these?

Thanks,

Dale Grice

One potential entry point would be here:

http://www.nwrail.com/nwre_products/heaters.html

I suspect people at this company can also advise you about both fabrication/restoration of and component sources for the specific units you have.

Check the actual heat strip. At one end you should find the voltage & wattage stamped into the heater strip. When you have that information you can purchase replacement from the manufacturer Thermon

HyRailer may have fallen foul of someone at the IETF. The more modern (i.e. secure in some snippety browsers) version of his link to Thermon, unmangled by URL-tag interference, is

https://www.thermon.com/us/brands/caloritech/transit-heaters/floor-heaters-fv-sd-ss#specifications

The direct link to 'find a sales rep' by region (which appears to be the way you start a request for technical information or to discuss this 'legacy' application) is

https://resources.thermon.com/reps/ths?filter=7

Thanks for the Thermon link and suggestion about data on the units. It was indeed on them. I have engaged Thermon and chromalux (sp?).

I did not find any info on the Internet when searching for the following units installed.

1. Wellman SS1-020101 w750 v240
2. 117-071393-053 OTF-24WX S80 240V 500W 1KL
