I recently found out about a 1941 train, or I should say three trains, operated by the government to find suppliers for the defense industry in smaller cities. In all of my years of reading and learning about trains I've never came upon this one.

If you're interested in it please see my blog posting. If anyone happens to have color photos of the train I'd love to see it in color.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Tom -

Very interesting. The one train is shown behind a Baltimore & Ohio steam locomotive. What about the other trains? Do you have the routing of all three?

Here is a partial list of the cities. I know there were more.

That's really interesting to me as the Ashton Valve company was purchased by the Defense Plant corporation in 1942 along with Crosby valve and gauge in order to produce valves and gauges for the war effort.
