About that FT demonstrator again, everything I've seen points to Brewster Green instead of Pullman Green including the model at the B&O museum so yeah, along with Venetian Yellow, the same two colors as the earlier Reading diesels...

Here's Reading #463 at Ephrata, PA back in 1961 with the Brewster Green pretty much matching that on the model and the truck...

Was that the fantrip that ran from Reading Terminal out the Main Line and Lebanon Valley Br. to the R&C Branch at Sinking Spring; on the R&C and Joint Line to Lancaster, PRR to Downingtown, Chester Valley Br. to Bridgeport, Main Line and City Branch back to Reading Terminal.

It did not need a pilot engine on PRR because most Reading Psgr RS-1b's had pulse code Cab Signals compatible with PRR. (RDG Class RS-1b; Alco model RS-3)

Good question, Phil, since I was only a few months old when that happened. LOL According to the original image as downloaded, the trip occurred in September of that year...

Okay guys, forget everything I said about Brewster Green on the Reading because that ain't it. Just got back from Strasburg on Friday with some interesting results, perhaps a new theory or two, and a big ol' brown sandwich to eat. Pass the salt, please, and help yourselves to the beer fridge!!! :)

Here's a nicely faded #10 sitting in its usual spot by J Tower. Notice how it's starting to look somewhat light grayishbrownish and pinkish. Now, I never saw that with the older olive-colored Reading diesels but there might be a good reason why. That's my unattended bag there by the lamppost so no need to say something...

If I remember right, M.U. #800 was painted in the same color as #10 which turns out to be a slightly darker version of GM WE5737 and WE5738.

WE5737 and WE5738 are common electric company utility truck body colors...

And RDG #800 in the museum, slightly darker, a bit more greenish like WE5737, and showing some red on the portions hit by the sunlight...

WE5838 and WE5737 are similar to Pullman Green and UPS Brown but perhaps with different proportions of the same pigments. Anyway, they're not the Reading green, either... LOL

Took another look at the Lotos Club car. It's definitely UPS Brown...

Alrighty then, as we work our way back over towards the cab training models, here's a good video to watch concerning what happens when different yellows and black are mixed together. Being the most orange, Yellow ochre (Imitation Gold) is the one that makes the typical more reddish/brownish Pullman color...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2sHMUPpxNk

Soooo, when a less-orange golden ochre like the Reading yellow is added to black, you should end up with a color that looks more green and less brown. HMMMM...

Checking the Trainmaster model's interior first, WE5725 Gray is the closest match...

https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetai ... ode=WE5725

WE5725 is right where I left off with the grays back on Page 64...

I've been really busy with other projects lately so I'll edit in more BS later. The good news is it's not necessarily the Pullman color as well but a similar composite green created by mixing black and Reading yellow instead of black and the true 014 Imitation Gold. The first pic is the original and if I take a little bit of the red out, the difference becomes much clearer...

I’ll throw a wrench in your Pullman Green. The official Pullman color evolved over time. I know of five iterations of the green color. Others used a similar dark green which at first glance would appear to be one of the Pullman greens, but comparatively, they were not. And, Pullman painted some cars to match the dark green that was standard on other roads. Worse, any kind of dark, olive-ish green seems to be incorrectly called Pullman Green by the masses by default. It can get confusing.

Maybe that's the big secret with the Pullmanesque colors, Eric, that they're based upon the common lettering and striping yellows. Just add a chosen measure of black to whichever one you're using and you have an easy complimentary color matchup. Combine some black into the lighter and whiter creamy yellows such as Croydon Cream and you might end up with something that looks more like the electrical truck colors along with that on #10 and #800 I'll have to fart around conducting more experiments with shadowing the paint samples and find out what happens. LOL

Of course, varying the amount of black would produce different results as well and the Reading color is slightly lighter than the NPRHA sample in grayscale...

Here's UPS Brown over Reading Olive. I should've also checked the gray on those storage crates the cab models are sitting on so I guess I'll have to blow another ten bucks and go back there again sometime...

I'm not sure if we should call it "Reading Olive" or "Reading Dark Pale Golden Ochre" but you guys can only imagine the overwhelming level of dismay I experienced when I discovered it wasn't Brewster Green. LOL It does explain why I was having a fair amount of trouble with Brewster Green dual chip matches though.

I got the camera in a little close for this one...

Back to the Pullman Color, this is a simulation of the difference with the Reading Olive using the Canon scan of the NPRHS sample which I might be able to use for a whole new round of dual chip matches since it would appear that's something I'm going to have to do in the not-too-distant future. Splitting the image, I left the red alone, brightened it slightly to make it "whiter", and added a bit of green to enhance the yellow changing it from a dark yellow ochre into a dark pale golden ochre. It might need a small amount of tweaking yet but you guys should get the idea...
