Between Dusty Gray, Folkstone Gray, and Chesapeake Gray, Dusty Gray appears to have the least amount of red in the formula so if we can't find any pics where Bando Gray looks a bit more reddish or tannish like Folkstone and Chesapeake Gray do sometimes, then chances are pretty good Bando Gray is Dusty Gray... LOL

Ford Newcastle Gray/Borden Gray, General Motors WE5724, is right there with that bunch as well.

Tonight, allow me to introduce you all to a brand new old candidate for Bando Blue, mostly because I've spent the entire evening attempting to eliminate this color choice and can't do it...

What the heck happened? Well, I found a photo of an early-fifties Mariner Blue Chevy truck parked behind #74 there so now I'm looking at Dodge Truck Purple Blue... LOL

There's not much good Mariner Blue there to work with, but I am hitting both GMC Ferrara Blue and Dodge Truck Blue on the same locomotive, certainly not enough to change my mind, yet...

Okay, the older 30's and 40's Dodge Truck Blue is not the same color as the '50's Dodge Truck Purple Blue that has persisted in the fleet listings. Dodge Truck Blue is more of a black-blue like DuPont 035 and darker than 2063. Dodge Truck Purple Blue is simply too young to be Bando Blue.

I might end up deleting these last few posts to avoid any confusion or I could leave them up just to demonstrate the trials and tribulations of paint color searching which would stay consistent with the entire thread so far... LOL

I think I’ve mentioned this before, fresh Bando blue is very dark. Almost a blue-black under interior lighting but pops definitely dark blue in direct sunlight. It’s much darker than people usually remember. The truck image is somewhere close to the ballpark.

We can take Dodge Truck Blue all the way back to 1929 as Hanover Blue on the Intermix sheets, Eric, but I'm not sure about Dodge Truck Purple Blue...

IM903 is definitely darker than 93-24366 as well...

My new scanner is a Canon LiDE 400, by the way. This what the raw scan of the NPRHA Pullman Green card looks like. Not very green, huh?... LOL

So, if I stick with 3380 as Bando Blue, then it was the Jersey Central which used The Pullman Color, not the Reading...

Here's a Columbia Wagon Works chip sheet which dates all the way back to Mr. Ubelele's time on earth.

For those unfamiliar...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_Wagon_Works

After 1924, the operation was known as the Columbia Body Company so this sheet predates that...

If I equalize the saturation levels between my scan and the chip sheet, it would appear Pullman Car Color hasn't changed for at least 100 years...

I’ll throw a wrench in your Pullman Green. The official Pullman color evolved over time. I know of five iterations of the green color. Others used a similar dark green which at first glance would appear to be one of the Pullman greens, but comparatively, they were not. And, Pullman painted some cars to match the dark green that was standard on other roads. Worse, any kind of dark, olive-ish green seems to be incorrectly called Pullman Green by the masses by default. It can get confusing.

Mr. Uebele does seem to treat it as a singular color, Eric, although in the chapter previous to the one describing the two formulas, he does write that no two of his samples were exactly alike...

https://chestofbooks.com/home-improveme ... nting.html

What he doesn't say, however, is that any of those samples were substantially different from each other. LOL

Finding Pullman Coach/Car/Body Color on the CNJ is somewhat of a big deal since that means their "Austerity Green" is different, say like Brewster Green Medium, perhaps.

The key thing to remember about Pullman Green is there's no green in it. Basically a mixture of black, white, yellow, and red, the color will show little to no greenishness like the car behind #2407 there even when the picture is way oversaturated...

Lackawanna Gray is a little further down the line at General Motors WE5726 and WE5624 but we'll get back to those later...

This Jersey Central green, which is not the later slightly lighter dark green or Austerity Green, is most likely International Dark Green/Adirondack Green, like my Audubon bird feeder... LOL
