Those "Erie" E-units they did back in the nineties actually looked pretty good paint-wise and there's the North Coast Limited arriving in Chicago for our last looksee at these particular greens for a little while...

Here are a couple of Pennsy trains getting ready to leave town but if you look carefully, a Reading boxcar is spotted in the background. I'll have to check the Chevy Truck Coppertone chip against Tuscan Red when I get to Strasburg again to see if there's a similar difference...

If any of you guys think I'm getting prepared to deliver a couple of Pennsylvania Railroad Ditzler/PPG paint codes in the next posting, you could be right... LOL

70063 is the number for the listed red and this is Fawn/Ambertone's entry on PaintRef...

PaintRef is now adding Ditzler/PPG fleet customer codes from the 1990 reference they have on hand.

ATSF Blue is DuPont 93-2063 Chevrolet Truck Boatswain Blue...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail ... zler=11334

Ditzler/PPG 11334 is WE5659, the exact match for 93-2063.

Chessie's blue appears to be identical to the Santa Fe's but B&O's 1966 order of GP-40's may have still been delivered in Bando...

Generally, fleet colors are not based on railroad specific colors. They're mass-produced highway vehicle colors. PPG 11334 would not be the same as AT&SF Cobalt Blue (Duco 5152).

AT&SF Cobalt Blue, B&O Bando Blue and C&O Enchantment blue are not the same.

With Ditzler/PPG paints, Eric, the number only determines the color, not the paint line. They add letters to the codes like "DQE" or "DAL" to distinguish those.

The original five digit number for Chevy Truck Boatswain Blue, also Fruehauf Trailer Blue, is 10039.

Now, there are more dark blues to look at but hey, are you sure you can't say that Santa Fe Blue isn't the exact same color as Roadway Blue?... LOL

Here's the matchup between the GM WE5659 card from the fan deck and the 93-2063 chip in the 1967 DuPont book. Pretty darn cool, huh?

The chip right below it, 93-76547, is Chevy Truck Marlin Blue...

The 1963 DuPont National Fleet Color Specifications catalog lists 93-2063 Blue for Anchor Motor Freight of Cleveland, Ohio so that pretty much seals the deal right there.

At least now we do have one known blue we can use as a baseline to help solve some of the others. In this not-so-saturated picture from out on the loop, the Chessie blue appears very dark like it's in the neighborhood of 93-035 Blue which would be the darkest blue in both the 1967 DuPont catalog and the 1972 GM fan deck. Ford Truck Sheridan Blue is the next lightest.

Here's the Ditzler/PPG code for Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Federal Yellow, 80061. This time, they were good enough to include the chip itself. LOL

I haven't been able to match this one up with an available DuPont chip as of yet but I can tell you it's definitely not the same color as Federal Truck Yellow, 93-6578...

Dulux Gold is the current CSX yellow but here it is on the B&O versus the Reading's yellow...

Since the topic here appears to be about paint codes, just a simple question from someone not “in the know”.

Are any of the Reading and Northern’s modern colors (the yellow and green) authentic to
the Reading? The green seems dark, however I’m not entirely sure as older photos have different coloration than a digital shot.

I don’t have anything on RBMN colors though if you find out what they use, I’d add them to the list.

Color matching to images, digital or film, is an exercise in futility. There are so many variables, both common and unique to each format, that make correct matching impossible. You’ll wind up matching the color in the image, not the actual color. I’ve yet to see a color sample made with the specified paint or a standard drift card match to an image.

All I can say with any certainty right now, NS6770fan, is that it's real close to where we've been looking... LOL

I'd find out what RCT&HS is using and then if RBMN is using the same color.

This would be the green used on the later all-green units. I think the as-delivered 1960's units (GP30 etc) and the wide stripe on the F-units are the same. The green used on the earlier shifters and road switchers (103 etc.) is a different color.
