Like the Great Northern, the Southern Pacific used 082 Omaha Orange. From what I understand, the red on #4449 there should be Swift Red. The older SP Socony Red is a very interesting color, however, so I'll be bringing that one up again soon. Here's a hint, I did mention it already but not as Socony Red...

I'll have to look at more BLE stuff and see what pops up. We can examine some of those darker oranges again later as well.

Back on home rails, when I was at the museum at Strasburg during the summer, I neglected to put the Brewster Green fan deck card up against the Trainmaster cab display model. I did make up this picture comparison shortly afterward with that and the Pullman Green from the NPRHA drift card set under pretty much the same lighting conditions just to see what it should look like. The cab display model paint did have a bit of a storage patina to it but you can tell which of the two colors is definitely closer.

That, and there was the minor difference between the WE5839 card and the slightly more yellow lettering color...

I guess we may as well take our first look inside the the 1967 chip book and find out which color WE5839 really is. LOL

Turns out to be Dodge Truck Sunset Yellow, 93-94967, which was introduced in 1961...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail ... t=93-94967

Underneath it are GMC Venetian Yellow, Diamond Yellow, International Apache Yellow, and Armour Yellow. Borden Yellow is the chip directly to the right.

The difference between Venetian Yellow and Sunset Yellow seems to be the same as the last pic but I did not use the camera flash for this one...

The Sunset Yellow card and chip provide the best match across the short hood of the Tyco model out of all those checked so far. The green hasn't changed color yet which is good...

In either lard or corn oil, Phil, since they both sort of match up with the two primary ingredients. Then, you make your dippy eggs in the remaining grease, butter up a couple slices of toast, dump syrup all over what doesn't jump off the plate, and there you have it, PA Dutch breakfast ecstasy!!!

Since one of my objectives here is to remain objective, I really hate to throw the 1962 Yellow back up in the air like this but you've got to do what you've got to do. LOL Might even help this thread get up to fifty pages...

Here's another one I just slapped together last spring but never posted, this time with #5505 fresh off the assembly line...

Inside the box, without the light passing through the plastic shell, it's still closer to Venetian Yellow. I'll have to stick the Sunset Yellow fan deck card in there to see what happens just in case it's the cellophane doing this... LOL

This is a tough one because a newer Sunset Yellow might look like an older Venetian Yellow with some of the yellow faded out of it. All I can say right now is if the Reading did switch yellows for the 1962 scheme, then this is most likely the yellow they switched to.

Here's the whole page out in the morning sun...

I do believe this color's going to cause some serious chinny-chin-chin abrasions in Reading country though. LOL Since the sun isn't out this morning for examining and experimenting with the chips and stuff, here's the first alternative example of Sunset Yellow on this repainted 1963 Dodge Power Giant Town Wagon...

National School Bus Yellow is the other yellow color Dodge Truck offered from '61 to '66 so they're pretty easy to tell apart in potential alternative example photos. School Bus Yellow is included in the 1967 catalog. The Dupont number is 93-75306...

This 1967 catalog basically mimics PaintRef's 1969 fleet listings and chip charts for reference.

Dodges are always painted the same on the inside as they are on the outside. This is an interior shot from a 1966 Sunset Yellow Town Panel with the original factory color...

#3613 did receive a new and larger nose herald sometime in late '74 or early '75 but it didn't quite match...

The cab number on #634 here doesn't match the yellow on the rest of the relief train, either. The road name on the side of the hood looks a little closer but that's all covered with road grime...
