I've seen that book while looking around the 'net so it's there if we need it but I'm hoping we won't, Sammy, not to say I wouldn't go buy one just for the heck of it. LOL The NdeM is/was a very interesting railroad to say the least.

Swift Red would be more in line with the fire engine-type reds and seems to work well with Armour Yellow. Those two colors identify as CB&Q Red and UP Yellow to all the good folks out your way...

In 1986 I started visiting Mexico to explore the post steam NdeM, and I met a fellow who worked for the Sector Communicaciones y Transportes, named Hector Lara Hernandez. When he was off duty, you'd never know it except that the trains were 1/87 scale rather than full size. We visited Valle de Mexico diesel shop as he was showing me around the terminal, and we actually got samples of the orange/ambiguous green/yellow paints that were as close to a standard for locomotives as they had at the time. Somewhere around here I still have a piece of white tile with the actual paints on it, but I don't know how I would be able to ACCURATELY reproduce this online. I guess you COULD just take my word on what color their choo choos were....

I've got an idea, Sammy. LOL Take the tile over to Wagner Equipment in Aurora and snap a picture of it sitting in the bucket of a brand new Caterpillar wheel loader. If the yellow matches, it's Dulux Gold.

You could also set it beside an empty Fritos bag which I might be able to use a reference to try a 1500-mile match of the colors over the internet.

Imitation Gold and Dulux Gold are best two complimentary yellows for Pullman Green because Pullman Green is pretty much a darker incarnation of those two colors, which are yellow ochres. This picture was taken later in the afternoon. The Pullman Color is looking more green and resembles the shadows on the well-saturated Dulux Gold/New Caterpillar Yellow sample. The card on the right is Toreador Red doing all kinds of crazy stuff...

General Motors WE5513 Swift Red and WE5779 GMC Brewster Green are Rochester Gas and Electric's colors. RGE #1941, which we had looked at before, was only painted in Brewster but #8 is seen here in both colors, albeit a bit weathered. The Erie-Lackawanna car in the background appears to be in well-aged Pullman Green...

Pete, I could send you the tile much easier than I could try to get it to look right on these squirrely computers. (But you better return it !!!) Of course, that won't cover every NdeM diesel that ever was, but it's a pretty good average.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to photograph the chips, Sammy. I did these on the back porch deck, which limited the sky reflection, at around 11:00 EDST with the camera positioned ahead of the sun.

Yeah, and I know it needs painted again... LOL

HMMMM, now I'm getting more into the darker oranges like CN's WE5885 if Chessie's orange is WE5502. General Motors WE5886 Orange looks pretty good as well...

LOL Sammy!!! Well, we do know that no other word rhymes with "orange".

For the CN guys, however, General Motors WE5885, the second fan deck card from the bottom on the left, is an exact match for DuPont 93-6282...

93-6282H is listed as Seven-Up Red in the 1963 DuPont National Fleet Color Specifications booklet. The fan deck card on the bottom, WE5882 Red, is pretty much the same color as WE5885 only slightly darker.

WE5887 Orange, the card on top, matches both DuPont 93-77671-H and 93-25159. 93-25159 is a late-fifties REO Truck orange...

https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetai ... =93-25159h

WE5886 Orange and DuPont 93-67059H is another Seven-Up color but is best known as Gulf Oil Orange...

Whether or not any of these four choices matches Chevrolet Hugger Orange/Pontiac Carousel Red is yet to be determined.

So anyway, the pukey yellow appears to be Dulux Gold/New Caterpillar Yellow...

So close yet so far.

Definitely looks like a Seven-Up color, though... LOL

Well Sammy, until you can locate that tile, the new scans indicate it's GM WE5885/DuPont 6282, the same color as Canadian National Orange... :)

DuPont 6282 would be more consistent with the eight-bubble Seven-Up label on the left and the Gulf Oil color in question is the darker Gulf orange used from 1960 to 1964...

EDIT: Whoops, I got ahead of myself there for a moment. Here's the NM combo with GM WE5885 Orange. I don't know about you, Sammy, but I think it looks good... LOL

Okay, now we're headed back to Reading. This is WE5650 Green and WE5541 Yellow. WE5650 is DuPont 93-046 GMC Morat Green and WE5541 is 93-1222 Cream. If we recall, 1222 also matches an old Duco house paint color called Old Ivory...
