Now, if I keep going with DuPont 373 as the Chessie System's yellow as well, the "vermilion" appears to fall right in on International Valencia Orange, GM WE5502...

This is what that particular color combo looks like from the fan deck...

Then, if I use International Valencia Orange as the reference color for the Chessie's vermilion, it tends to peg Dodge Truck Toreador Red as the Western Maryland's Vermilion...

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to verify 3380 GMC Ferrara Blue as Bando Blue since that's also supposed the be the Reading's Blueliner blue. The GP-30 in this picture features the older Roman-lettered herald on the rear of the long hood instead of the later block-lettered version so it should be in Bando and not Enchantment Blue...

This is an excellent photograph of B&O #4579 featuring the older herald along with the sunburst paint design...

So, here's the difference in color between the newer and older versions and my first crack at trying black... LOL

When you search the internet for something along the line of "Bando Blue vs. Enchantment Blue", this photo will tend to pop up. On the Reading GP-30 in the background, notice that it wasn't just the frame that was repainted, but the whole lower green band. The rest of the unit appears to have been left alone, however...

I did have to go straight through the dirt for this one so I figured increasing the saturation level of both the picture and the chips might help. With Bando on the left and Enchantment on the right, here are the results...

In the back of the Pullman Paint and Lettering Guide, it says 70-102 Chesapeake and Ohio Enchantment Blue is yellower than 70-20 Baltimore and Ohio blue. Some of the colors as depicted in that book, especially the reds, do look a little smoke-stained so I don't know about that.

Alrighty then, since everyone's curiosity got the best of me, I ordered one of those late-sixties Ditzler/PPG International sheets and the results are so fascinating it would make Mr. Spock raise both eyebrows...

The so-called School Bus Chrome Yellow matches GM WE5909 and DuPont 6808, "Highway Yellow" is a very close match to GM WE5910 and DuPont 373 with an ever-so-slight hue difference, and Federal Yellow matches GM WE5930, Ditzler/PPG 80061, and 80309.

It almost looks like Ditzler/PPG and International were trying to cover all the bases there. HMMMM...

But hey, I think we made to the bottom of this paint color rabbit hole, guys!!! Hopefully, we can find our way back out. LOL {insert beer smiley here}

In the 1967 DuPont Fleet Color Selector catalog, it would appear 93-74084 is the equivalent of 93-373 so there is a decent chance the consecutively-numbered 93-74085 is DuPont's take on the Ditzler/PPG version. Good thing I also brought a flask but don't worry, I'll share.

C&O Venetian Yellow is most likely the same color as the Reading and Lackawanna Yellows since that's the only color I've seen labeled as Venetian Yellow... LOL

93-6808 conveniently slips in right between the two and does appear slightly darker with the dual chip match. 93-5248 and the Lemon Yellow handrail on the GP-30 looks good like it should...

I do remember Blue Bird busses being more yellow and less orange than they are now so I believe there's a bit of an anomaly with Ditzler/PPG 80970 since it matches DuPont 6808...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedi ... l=Bluebird

93-75306, 93-6578, WE5561, and the more modern versions you see today are the standard school bus chrome yellows. The slightly lighter 93-24067 is Mack Kiltie Yellow and 93-24592 is International Valencia Orange...

This is why I was wondering about 98-3404 and 93-6808, Eric. Weird, huh?... LOL

I had to upsaturate this photo for a dual chip match as well. The Enchantment Blue does look lighter and a little greenish around and under the herald on #4029 so that is an indication of how lighting conditions and bit of dirt patina may affect the appearance of the color. The same effect is also occurring on the Bando Blue which could make it difficult to tell the two apart...

Multiple sources indicate International 483 is the original Cub Cadet Federal Yellow which was used from 1961 to 1986, Stan, and from what we've seen here, the equivalent of Ditzler/PPG 80061...

I still think that oddball lighter gray color on the Reading's Center Flow covered hoppers is GMC Polar Gray. Here on PaintRef, it's listed for CSX...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedi ... X+Railroad

Of course, it doesn't say, but I have a pretty good idea of where it goes...
