Yes, the ARC donated the locomotive and painted it before its arrival.

Thanks!

The books and rosters I have on hand say that Alexander Alco S3 #6 was built by Alco in September 1953, c/n #80292, as Davenport Rock Island & North Western ("The DRI Line") 5. It was sold to Birmingham Rail & Locomotive in December 1975, and then resold to the Alexander RR in 1976.

The Alexander RR has/had another Alco S3, #7, originally built for the PRR as their 8873 in November 1950 as c/n 78404, later PC 9473.

Sandy-

Yes, you are more than welcome to come see your namesake locomotive, and railroad for that matter.

Alco #7 from the ARC went to the Alexander Chapter-NRHS several years ago and we sold it to the Craggy Mountain Line in nearby Asheville to fund other projects, knowing that this engine would one day be coming.

Nov 4, 2019 was the end of the Alco era on the Alexander RR, where they had been on the roster since 1975, and active until 2010. Both #6 and #7 retain their original Alco power plants.
