According to an article by a local preservation group, the former C&O roundhouse on Parsons Avenue in the south end of Columbus, Ohio has made a list of the nine most endangered structures of 2020 in the greater metropolitan area. The article states that CSX will soon tear the building down. 15 of the original 27 stalls remain along with a 115 foot turntable. Also on the list, The Cleve Theater is an Art Deco theater from the 1930’s that would be a travesty to lose, but it is in a very rough part of town.

Looks like it may be in pretty nice condition. Too bad but what can be done with it? It's not conveniently located within the city, and in fact it's at the edge of the railyard. Maybe the turntable could be saved?

The turntable definitely looks to be in good condition. If it's been held in service until recently, I would suspect that CSX has done frequent maintenance on it.

As a CSX conductor I sat on that turntable in an engine for an hour back in 2003 while my engineer told me all about how he chased down the 8888 a few months prior. We got half way around turning the engine when the table quit working.

Rick,

I want you to know how much I appreciated your very funny turntable story.
(It was smile maker for me ; )
I've read it twice now, and it still makes me smile.

It certainly was one of the more memorable moments of my short CSX career.

From 1972 to 1974 Hocking Valley Scenic's 2-8-0 No. 33 would winter at the Parsons Roundhouse.

Dave Dupler has an excellent site on the history of the HVSR.
