Twenty years ago I would have been "all over" these job searches, ten years ago I would have considered them; now, I just don't want all those headaches, even though working through them can be very emotionally rewarding--I suspect it's just part of the aging process (and sometimes just burn out). The postings here have been very observant; Exc Director is a tough position and hard to find the right fit. The skills required are pretty much unique, yet vary from facility to facility. Also, this is a small "industry" and almost everyone knows everyone. Once in a while we get someone from another group (an "outsider") who really fits in and contributes much.
I do not envy the search committees.

If the have defined their needs the search committees should have no problem. If they haven't thought it through or been unspecific or - even worse - have no long term plan, it doesn't matter who they hire since anybody can fill an undefined role when there's no criteria for success.
