There's a note in the FLIMSIES section today about some equipment in trouble at South Dundas in eastern Ontario. A wood coach, baggage car and GT 2-6-0 #1008 on display next to the old depot from Aultsville. From the photo, it appears that the Mogul might be a sister to some of the other surviving 2-6-0's such as Strasburg #89 and Middletown & Hummelstown #91. Anyone know for sure?

Greetings:
You are correct Les, they are all CNR class E-10-a.
Note that #88 was renumbered back to 1008 for display.
But wait, there's more!
Wilmington & Western #92
London, ON #86
Palmerston, ON #81
Age of Steam Roundhouse #91 (oops: no, it is #96, sorry, JDC)
Be well, J.David

Know what for sure? That is a sister to #89 and others similar? Yes it is. It was CNR #88 later in its career.

I think the engine at the AOS roundhouse is 96. No. 91 is at Middletown and Hummelstown. It ran a few years ago - not sure if it is awaiting a rebuild or what the story is.

GTR 1008 / CNR 88 I believe suffered crown sheet damage in a roll over in the late 50s. I can't recall if it was rebuilt or retired after the accident.

Hi Jason:
You are absolutely correct: the E-10-a at Sugarcreek is former CNR #96.
I should have remembered that one: #96 and former CNR #1551 were the final two pieces to leave Steamtown (Bellows Falls, VT). Ervin White and I locked the Steamtown gate for the last time after getting them off the property.
I moved both of them (on their own wheels) to Binghamton, NY in January 1986.
#1551 continued on to Jerry Joe's first operation at Austintown, OH with Bill Goslin riding, oiling and watching over it.
#96 continued on to Mount Forest(?), ON, with no one watching over it. It's bell was stolen in Hamilton, ON...
Be well,
J.David
PS: I am quite sure that #96 was repaired after it's accident. Although it was used as a parts donor for #89 by the Green Mountain, it had been serviceable a year or so prior to being chosen for Nelson Blount's collection by his CMO, Clyde Sessions. In fact, much of the valve gear now on #89 was robbed off of #96 after someone forgot to install cotter pins in the #89's valve gear after some work had been done on it at North Walpole... JDC
