Hello everyone, I want to construct a 3d rendition of the UP 5511 but have not been successful in finding any decent elevation drawings for this specific locomotive. My MR steam diagram book doesn't have the UP TTT6. So far I haven't located any old back issues of any of the popular model RR magazines with a good drawing for 5511 either.

What is the big secret surrounding the UP TTT6 with young valve gear? Or is this just a unpopular design with little attention? I know BLW did a model of them a while ago. I think there was an all brass import of 5511 available many moons ago as well. But drawings are very elusive. It's like looking for the Jersey Devil, He's one elusive customer!

Got to thinking a little bit about Robert's note. He says that 2-10-2 number 5511 is a class TTT6. The little I know about Union Pacific class nomenclature for steam locomotives seems to indicate that 5511 is the 6th group of Two-Ten-Two's (TTT) that the U.P. had on its roster. Did the railroad really have at least SIX classes of this type?

Les,

Union Pacific labeled their 2-10-2s with TTT ( Two-Ten-Two ) to designate the wheel configuration. UP's TTT-6 and 7 were the last and the largest of the class. The TTTs received many modifications through their careers and served until the mid 50s.

Did you try the UPHS? They have tons of drawings and info.

Yes, They really couldn't give me a definitive answer. Only a recommendation for a DVD of everything they have for drawings. But, No idea of what quality of drawings or whether not they include tender drawings.

I was quite disappointed to be honest. I figured they could give me a definitive answer if anyone could.

Robert -

By your reply, I gather then that the Union Pacific had 7 classes of 2-10-2's on their roster; TTT-1 on up through TTT-7. Surprised me that they had that many individual classes of the 2-10-2 type. Thanks!

Here's Don Strack's roster page where I believe every class of UP 2-10-2 from 1915 onward to the end of revenue steam falls into, if you want some more details on the variety of 2-10-2's that they rostered.

Thanks much for Don Strack's U.P. roster. Explains the various classes very well.
