"I believe Dick Cheney was on the board of UP for a while, correct?"

So I've heard. Innuendo, of course.

Although he wasn't president (he was campaigning for the office), Robert F. Kennedy's body was carried by a funeral train from New York City to Washington, DC in 1968.

Yes, he was on the UP Board of Directors. He resigned in 2000 when he became the Republican nominee for VP.

He had several members of his family that work for the UP. I have heard him talking about an uncle (I think) who was a cook on a UP MOW train.

What make and model is this engine? My spotting skills for modern diesels are non-existent.

The wider UP "Media Kit" concerning the funeral train actually has a lot of interesting items on it...

I'm not much of one to go out and sit trackside for a day, but this train seriously has me considering making the drive from Dallas to follow it. I wonder why funeral trains fell out of favor after the 60s.

The coming of Amtrak in 1971 might be the reason.

At this moment, 4141 is parked in the yard in Spring, TX. 1943 (the Armed Services unit) is leading a second unit and is headed for Spring, with a 21 car consist which includes those cars in the UP release.

The Washington Post has a nice story and photo/video.

UP 4141 is an EMD SD70ACe. It is named for the late George H W Bush (President #41)

According to Bloomberg, Andrew H. Card is one of the Directors of UNP and had been Secretary of Transportation in the G H W Bush Administration and was later Chief of Staff to George W Bush, President #43.

The posted list of cars on the train isn't right.

I ran a "train list" on it at work, and there are 21 cars....
