That site is a great resource. Reading about that car tells you so much about Strasburg. They found the car, figured out a trade that would satisfy the organization and that was BEFORE they needed or were able to restore the car. They then cacooned it, protecting it until they had the time and money to do the breathtaking restoration work that we see in the photos.

That shows you how much Strasburg cares about what they do. I really hope they continue to be the class act that they are.

Former B&O X4111, discovered in Somerset, PA in wreck train service and acquired by the WK&S circa 1965 for a museum. Used during the 1970's for the display of "Circus World" and then used as storage. Traded to SRC for C&O insulated box car.

SRC "Susquehanna Valley" given by WK&S to SRC was former RDG 1055, last used by the Reading Company as the women's washroom at Wayne Junction in Philadelphia.

The C&O insulated boxcar, was not traded by SRC, it was sold directly to the WK&S by Atlantic Central Steam Co. (Restorers of Royal Hudson 2839) for the grand sum of$1.00!
Included in the sale was a large quantity of heavy duty industrial quality shelving.

Just to clarify, P&R/RDG PBf car 1055 (now Strasburg 92) had been the locker room with lockers, sinks and showers for women employees at Wayne Junction Electric Car Shop.

Strasburg car 58 Huber Leath (the current-era SRC's first coach) was PBf 1089.

To close the loop here, the PBf cars were built by Harlan and Hollingsworth in Wilmington in 1910 and 1911. They were built with Pintsch gas lighting, converted to electric in the mid-1920's. In 1910, Cars 1062 to 1071 were modified with deluxe amenities for use in B&O's Blue Line service between Jersey City and Washington. Steel PBj cars 1475 to 1484 replaced them in 1914.

Car 118 went on her inaugural run today for SRC directors, and other invited guests.

A menu greeted every passenger.

The back side of the menu contains a short history of the car.

The Moedingers are pleasantly surprised by the hor d'oeuvres as their son and grandson, and directors of the Rail Road look on.

Earlier in the month, Linn was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by G Mark Ray of the HeritageRail Alliance while waiting to board the conference charter at the C&TS in Chama, New Mexico. The plan had been to present the award to Linn at the Banquet that evening, but Linn's travel plans prevented him from being there, so he was pulled out of the crowd that morning.

Gorgeous car, and a well-deserved honor for Linn. But "cacooned"? And twice in the same printed piece?

As the son of the editor and publisher of a central Pennsylvania weekly newspaper that actually used to run a column in written Pennsylvania German:

That sure looks like a typical "Dutch" misspelling to me............. >;-)

Yes, cacooned, make a note of it. We try to be educational here at the rails of history.

I advise you all:

DO NOT LOOK UP THE WORD "CACOONED."

Especially in "urban/slang dictionaries" online.

And ESPECIALLY not at work.

That is all.
