I should know better not to make a joke on this site.

The cars are theirs to do what they want with. If they can make a few $ scrapping them that will go toward other worthy preservation goals so be it.

I completely understand trying to get someone to take something, even free that requires a large input of time, effort, and financial resources.

That being said after looking at their website it doesn't look like they are hurting for funds. I for one (not that I am interested) was not aware these were up for grabs. I think the reality is photos or a link to them could or should have been posted, they could have been listed outside of RYPN also, god forbid Facebook, even Cragslist, eBay (if only just to get the word out).

I was not trying to derail or hijack the thread.

Thank you!

Stop the Press, The two cars are once again available. The plans to send them to scrap have been put on hold. PTM will now offer the cars to anyone (non profits are preferred but not absolutely required) willing to take them off our property. The cars are free, but understand they are in less than prime condition and are not complete in terms of refrigeration equipment or interior furnishings. All effort and cost to move them will be that of the acquiring organization. Before we accept any offer, the offeree must come and inspect the cars at PTM, Washington, PA. This offer is made as of this date (10/29/18) and may have a finite open period.

Now, those of you who were so eager that we not scrap the two cars, here's your chance to be preservation heroes. Contact the museum at 724-228-9256 to make arrangements to view them.

Please be sure the 'finite open period' is more than a day this time.

Even a month, or two, might qualify as 'short notice' considering some of the declared former interest that was short-routed.

If the cars need to be moved INTERNALLY to a less critical location to keep them from being cut up in short order, perhaps we should start drumming up support for that...

Could you post some photos, either here or on a photo sharing site etc?

Photos of the 2 cars are available, but when I tried to load them it says the file is invalid. I can open and view them, so they do exist.

To receive photos, PM me with your email address so I can bypass RYPN and send the images directly.

The photos were taken in 2014.

Recommend posting a classifieds ad on RYPN, plus a post in the "post before you scrap" sticky, and if someone has a facebook account on Ahead of the Torch. Thanks to David for giving these cars a shot.

Well, granted the photos are four years old but I've seen (and worked on) a lot worse.... If we weren't trying to get rid of some equipment and had some change in our pockets, one of these would make a nice "this is how you used to get all your fresh produce, meat or beer" displays.

I have known about the availability of these cars for a few years now. I was somewhat interested in one to use up here at YSH but I don't really have much money for moving one.

As for advertising these cars, it seems that the for sale section of discoverlivesteam.com is probably the one place that gets the most views. Their format of photo listings far surpasses our format of thread listings, unfortunately.

We listed some equipment on OMR and then doubled up on our own web page with with a lot of other stuff. I seem to get few more inquiries direct but the combination of the two has worked well, at least so far as awareness goes. We didn't expect immediate results - selling this stuff requires a long range view unless you need to have a fire sale....

Do be aware that you will pay a commission on items listed through a broker so for "free" stuff, list it yourself on your website and spread the link around wherever you think it will reach the right people. Post the link here in the classifieds.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but.....PTM wants the two cars to go away at no cost to PTM in dollars or volunteer hours. Anything else will probably not be acceptable.
