Hello all,

I am currently looking for available reference manuals or other resources for Shays and other such geared locomotives.

I have a small collection of the ICS manuals, but I do not believe I have seen any books in that series that pertain to geared locomotives. Books similar to the ICS series would be what I have in mind with my inquiry.

Thanks in advance.

I have an operators manual published by Heisler.

Step 1: Buy a rod locomotive...

There are some excellent reference books out there about Shays, Heislers, Climaxes and Willamette but they're historical, not technical.

Sadly, I don't recall ever seeing anything like the ICS manuals for geared locos. Obviously, some of it will carry over, things like pistons and valves, but there is much that will not.

Much appreciated Mr. Anderson, these are exactly what I had in mind.

I'm a fireman on a normal rod engine, but after a return trip to Cass this past weekend I wanted to see what I could do to learn more about what was in front of me :-)

I visited Durbin as well of course, and would be curious to learn more about the operations of a Heisler as well.
