They are the simplest engines you could possibly conceive of. Accordingly the ability is readily available today to build a new one from scratch following a pattern that you would like.

Choose an original that has the steam dome ahead of the firebox, and you will have the least expensive full-size locomotive is possible to replicate.

There are still plenty of locomotives waiting to be saved, including early ones like this one that I recently acquired. Biggest problem is, nobody cares about this old stuff.

I agree with Kelly, these locomotives are quite simple there's nothing much to the chassis and any reputable foundry can easily replicate the castings at reasonable costs.

In the past year, I made the patterns and the foundry recast most of the missing castings for this locomotive, at minimal cost.

This "locomotive" actually started life as a "street motor" in 1890 and was reconfigured in 1903 to be a coal burning locomotive. Other than the build sheet, I've found no records showing its original configuration. Thus, my intent is to rebuild it as an 1890's era locomotive, preserving any remaining street motor features.

If I can do it, anyone else can do it.

I wonder how much her looks would be improved if you removed the center set of drivers during the rebuild?

Keep us posted on your progress!

Do you have any photos of its original appearance for us?

Never found any original photos of CN 1167, only post 1903.
Build sheet for CN 1167 says similar to CN 922 however, cab with turret roof and ventilators.

Original photos of CN 922 are shown here...

What exactly is a "street motor" anyway? Is it simply another term for a steam dummy?

street motor=steam motor=dummy locomotive

They were called dummies because they were dumb, that is, silent. The exhaust was muffled so as not to scar the horses.

Kelly might know better, but if these things are so simple, and you wanted to replicate one, what sort of cost are you looking at? I'd imagine somewhere in the seven digits...
