Post subject:  Phelps Dodge locos in AZ

There are nine Phelps Dodge locos on display in AZ. Apache Jct has #2, 8, 18; Tucson, #15; Phoenix, #17; Safford, #97; and Douglas has three, numbers unknown. Pics of these last three were taken in the parking lot at the Douglas Visitors Center on March 1, 2018. They have plaques describing their service at the smelter, but don’t mention a locomotive number. Does anyone know their numbers?

The first is a “calcine motor,” used for spotting calcine tank cars at the Douglas smelter. It is similar to numbers 15, 17, and 18 above:

The second is Baldwin-Westinghouse #49858. It was used on the hi-line to spot ore cars over bins for unloading at the Douglas smelter. This locomotive was previously United Verde Copper Co. #4, used in the Hopewell Tunnel at Jerome (Myrick Vol 3, p. 330, and Vol 6, p. 87, photo provided by Sheldon and Stanley Schwedler):

The third is a gas-mechanical loco which served in the Sacramento pit at Bisbee, then was used for switching at the 9th St. warehouse in Douglas. A calcine tank car can be seen at left:

In my continuing quest to document the locomotives on display in AZ, I’m wondering what the unit numbers were for these three locomotives. Railroad Critters Vol 1 says the gasoline loco was #16, but does anyone know the numbers for the two electrics?
