PRR GG-1 to be booted from Harrisburg Station?

This turned up on Facebook, so I don't know if it's confirmed or not. . .sadly, in either case, it's only too believable in our current environment.

Until we hear something from the NRHS Chapter who actually owns the locomotive, why worry or give credence to such stories?

By posting this "story" and stating "it's only too believable in our current environment," you become the poster child for what's called "Confirmation Bias."

The information in the facebook page cited above is inconsistent with the caption of a photo showing the GG1 being washed on the NRHS facebook page;

"June 22 2018: SHE'S A CLEAN(ER) MACHINE. T'was a good day to give the old gal a bath! With the help and cooperation of Amtrak's electrical traction department out of Lancaster, we were able to fully wash and partially wax/buff our 4859 and spruce up the PRR cabin car. 8 Chapter members were there to do the honors on this occasion."

If 4859 has to be moved from HAR, for at least some period of time, might it be advantageous to bring it temporarily to create a GG1 focused version of "The Great Gathering?" The Great Gathering was an event held at the National Railway Museum ( part of the British Science Museum Group) that reunited the surviving class A4 locomotives. A breif summary of the impacts on museum visitation and corporate partnerships may be found here: https://artsandbusiness.bitc.org.uk/awards-ab/35th-awards/hornby-and-national-railway-museum

Would such an event centered at Strasburg offer enough interest among enthusiasts in terms of creating staged photo events to generate revenue that would benefit both RMPA and the NRHS chapter? Would the event be significant enough to attract sponsorship from one or more model manufacturers?

Moving a GG1 these days is no small feat. They basically can't roll over the general system (for various reasons, both real and contrived), which makes such a thing very expensive.

It's been done before though, but generally for easier to transport items (like the Streamliners event at Spencer a few years ago).

Yes, but such an event could be part of the overall relocation project and since it would travel over Amtrak's trackage to the SRR, I don't see why it couldn't be done if there is sufficient will.
