Trolley Restoration Project update: The Jersey Shore Historical Society Board has voted to cancel the trolley restoration project.

It has come to the board’s attention that some necessary and expensive repairs are needed on the Samuel Moss House. The repairs include masonry and roofing work. Since this is the case, the Board felt the need to redirect the funds to the upkeep of the museum building and its artifacts.

This was not an easy decision to make, but the priority and mission of The Jersey Shore Historical Society is to maintain the museum so that the history of Jersey Shore may be kept alive. Our goal is to complete the needed repair work so that the museum can be reopened to the public in 2024.

If you know of anyone or group who would be interested in restoring the trolley, please message this page.

River Valley Transit Authority is requesting the trolley be moved by August 2024.

Interestingly, this car (or what is left of it) is believed to be the only single truck streetcar from Philadelphia still in existence.

"Hello all! We have a former Long Island Rail Road P72 coach that is surplus to our needs. The car is in poor shape cosmetically but IS still movable by rail with a new COT&S (D-22 brake system, last moved in a hospital move with expired brakes in November 2023).
We will be removing the genset (Detroit slant three-cylinder) and fuel tank for reuse on a different car in our collection, but we are looking to dispose of the rest of the coach. We have received some messages from various parties that are interested in purchasing parts (specifically the trucks) if we scrap the car, but if anyone is interested in taking the entire car as-is, we'd rather see it go somewhere in one piece. We'd consider a donation to the right party with the resources and experience to get it moved out of our yard fairly quickly.
The car is located on live rail in Port Jervis, New York. We'd like to have a plan for the car by June 30th, whether it's getting re-homed or we're scrapping it and parting it out. If it's getting re-homed, it can stay on-site beyond June 30th while the new owner gets it ready to move (although we'd ideally like it gone ASAP). If you're interested in the whole car, shoot us an email at equipment@erieturntable.org.
If we don't get any inquiries and develop a plan for the whole car by June 30th, we'll move forward with scrapping, and we'll put out another call for anyone interested in parts before the torches come out."

That is an outrage. They call themselves a museum!? Balderdash! More like a scrapyard.

This is not what any of us volunteers and employees of real museums stand for. This is not right.

Thank you Rick for putting this out here. Let's hope that the owners of historic equipment will listen before their names become mud to this community, joining the ranks of those such as Perlman and McGinnis....

About a week and half ago we set off on a import trip from the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City. We arrived in Eureka California at 7:30 pm for a full weeks worth of work. Over the next 3 days my self and the amazing team of guys you see in the photo below removed brake rigging, a brake cylinder, seat cushions and frames, and smaller hardware off 2 old Southern Pacific Coaches. The parts we recovered will help with 2 projects in the works. More parts are still waiting for pick (A 26 foot uhaul truck can only haul so much). The team at Timber Heritage Association are fantastic they helped us all 3 days even in the rain and even though the story for these cars have come to an end the story of THA is only starting and I'm excited to see what the future holds for them. Stay tuned as later this year for some exciting news coming out of the Nevada Southern!!"

The author is CMO at Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City. Not sure what happened to the third car.
