For the price of 35 Grand you could own a New York Central painted FL9. FL9 2012 has been sitting in the Harmon boneyard since it was retired in 09(?). Mostly Complete, what was removed can be obtained. Locomotive was running when it was retired and has HEP. (However I’m sure years of outdoor storage has done its toll) Just passing this along as I’d rather it get a second life in preservation or in a tourist line. https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=M ... cctid=8831 |

"Complete, runs"? Read the description carefully. Lots of parts missing, water in the lube oil, would take quite a bit of work to make this a runner- |

And stacks capped in proper Metro-North style: plastic bags and duct tape. That technique has a half-life of about 23 days. Water in the prime mover, for years. Did anyone see what else they're selling? 1000+ brand-new rail saw blades. I guess they'll never need any of those ever again.... Who decides nonsense like this? Probably some computer program. If it never does see rail again it would make a good parts source for whomever. The parts that are missing are obtainable, Im just passing this along to the preservation community. I happened to be trackside for the last revenue run of MN 2012 back in 2005. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ottomatic77/3172083042 "A tanker truck accident blocked Route 7 for days, prompting Metro-North to temporarily provide additional service on the Danbury Branch. CDOT 2027 with Train 1871 arrives at Wilton, while "NYC" 2012 prepares to head north with Extra Train 3832. This was the last revenue movement for 2012, which suffered HEP failure after this trip." https://www.flickr.com/photos/ottomatic77/3171253673 "Extra Train 3832 departs Wilton, CT. This was the last revenue trip for 2012, as it suffered HEP failure and was set out at Danbury for return to Harmon. The extras were run as additional service to alleviate traffic on Route 7 due to emergency construction to clear a tanker truck accident from days before." All of the Starships are long scrapped. |

Yes, the ten Starships were scrapped in mid 2005. One of those was the first FL9 built too. |

Starships were the 10 FL9's rebuilt into FL9AC's using EMD 12-710 engines, done by ABB in the early 1990s. |

Has anyone identified what might be good on this particular locomotive? Is the cab intact? Is the generator good? Is it worth salvage, and most of all, it does represent an "F" unit car body. Isn't that the real collectible piece? |

There’s another that was fired up sometime in the last two years with an organization in New York or New Jersey, if I remember correctly. There are still a few more kicking around. I personally like them and wish I had more opportunities to run our #2019. |
