This will allow KSHC to fully realize its long-term vision for the multi-use campus, which would give the community a meeting and event space, along with rail excursions that attract visitors to the area.

Just remember, CSX approved the press release and is in the process of selling off a number of lines...

The "home mainline steam thread" folks should pay attention...

I think it's more than just Ravenna we should pay attention to... Fort Wayne, ORHF, and now Kentucky Steam... To me it seems we should look at these ideas and see what each idea brings to the table, both good and bad. If it can be replicated in the right places then it could be possible to develop regional steam centers...

In each one of those cases, you are seeing organizations seek out a sustainable, long-term business plan for mainline steam locomotives which are almost considerably less reliant on host railroad participation. It's innovation away from a mess of problems with which groups lie ours have almost zero leverage.

I wonder how much of this came out the discussion on "A Home for Main Line Steam," and how much of it came from different people seeing the same problem and coming to the same conclusion.

As much as I would like it to be the former (I was the one to start that thread), in honesty, it was more likely the latter!

Bah, I don't care. . .as long as we get a bit of coal smoke at speed.

I would agree that it's been a lot of people just reading the tea leaves for the last ten years. I started beating the bushes about our Headwaters Junction project in 2007 (!) and it took the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation TEN years to get where they are now. Kentucky Steam has always had this in the back of their mind to answer the question of how/where/when 2716 would have a future.

In all honesty, the problems are well known and discussed, it's the political maneuvering, positioning and politicking, and money that are the hard parts - if you've got the time...

A great infomercial has been put up on YouTube about the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp. project in Ravenna, and about the move of the 2716 that is set to happen in a few short weeks.
