Post subject:  EMD F-unit question- how many B units are left?

Hi folks. I was wondering, how many b units are left in the F- series? I did make a small list, but I am certain that I missed a few.

DLW 664b (f7b)
NS 4275, 4276 (f7b)
SF 347B (f3b)
BN-2 (f9b)
CP 1018, 1019 (f7b slug)
WP 925 (f9b)
EMD 103B (ftb)
MILW 96B (f7b)
CP 1400 (exec. F9b)
DRGW 5771, 5631(f9b)

I am certain that this isn't all of them. Are there other units hidden away, or better yet preserved?

Yes. From operational units, to hollow slugs. I'm curious to what wasn't cut up.

I believe Gateway had ex-CNW F7B #315 for sale on behalf of a client a while back, no idea current status: https://web.archive.org/web/20160804043 ... yb035.html

Just a note. WP 925 is a counterfeit. All WP B units were scrapped. The 925 at Portola is really a CN B unit painted to look like a WP unit. I do not know the CN number.

Hi,

The Keokuk Junction Railway, a small shortline in west-central Illinois, is home to an A-B-A set of ex-CN FP9's. They have been repainted and renumbered for the KJRY and are used in weekly revenue freight service between Peoria and La Harpe, IL.

The B unit was built in February of 1955 as CN 6613. It later worked for VIA under the same number and then was sold to a leading company who sold it to KJRY. Here is a photo I took a few days ago of the B unit at the railroad's shops at Mapleton, IL.

Anyone know the status of the VLIX fleet? I know there are several B units in that collection.

I think the ex-EMCO units were scrapped some time back after repeated attempts to sell them.

Yeah, I thought VLIX has a few F-units at TVRM as well, including the famed Haysi #1.
Anyone know the status of those? Is the Haysi 1 operable?

WM 415 on the West Virginia Central, but is of another heritage. It just masquerades as a WM unit. It was one of the CSX A-B-B-A set, I believe it was originally NC&St.L 918, later Seaboard and then CSX 117.
