Here in Delaware the Wilmington & Western Railroad returned former Atlanta Birmingham & Atlantic engine No. 58 back to service after her 1472 day inspection. As part of the work she received a new tender tank and a new set of driver tires which were surplus GG-1 tires that Amtrak donated to the W&W in the early 1980s when they retired the last of the GG-1 locomotives.

A good deal of the running gear work has been finished and this move was in anticipation of delivery of our new boiler. She is now pointed toward and looking toward home which is the Mid-Continent Railway Museum of North Freedom, WI.

The contributing photographers are Patricia Campion, Kayla Roudebush and Gretchen Dillon.....mld

In addition to the C&NW 1385 work mentioned by mldeets, some additional Mid-Continent Railway Museum (North Freedom, Wis.) accomplishments in 2017 include:

Repainted Great Northern coach #3261

Built a new 210' x 50' display building. The structure won't be fully finished and track laid until 2018 but getting this far seems like it counts.

Raised the funds needed to begin rehabilitation of the museum's Baraboo River bridge. The bridge was damaged by flooding in June 2008 and has been out of service ever since. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2018. Having the bridge in service will restore the museum's connection to the national rail network.

Installed roughly 1,200 new ties along the museum's 3.7 mile mainline in spring 2017.

On December 13th, 2017, Scranton Transit #505 returned to the Electric City Trolley Museum car barn to continue restoration work. This photo is significant in that not one, but two surviving Scranton cars are pictured - #505's bare shell and Scranton Railway #324. Both will be restored to full operation. Special thanks to Sherwin-Williams for donating all of our paint products!

Please visit our Go Fund Me page if you wish to donate, and congratulations to many other groups on a successful 2017!

NH&I RR completed a 3 year heavy overhaul of 2-8-0 # 40 (Baldwin, 1925) and she returned to service pulling the well marketed and very popular "Santa Steam Spectacular" trains.

During the 3 year effort her running gear was totally gone over and major segments ( springs, pins, bushings, driver tires etc., etc. ) were replaced or totally renewed.

As a testimony to the quality of the work done she performed nearly flawlessly despite record cold wind chill temps. on some of the days.

Ridership was very strong with many of the trips sold out well in advance despite very high ticket prices.

I had the pleasure of hosting a total of 11 RyPN cab riders when I served as engineer and it was a pleasure to put a face with men I had only known previously by screen name.

A Happy New Year wish to all.
