Looks like we have to hold our breath again and see what happens.

I am happy to announce that the depot will be saved! A farmer from nearby Homer Glen has purchased the depot and plans to relocate it to his farm for museum use on August 15th. Thanks to the New Lenox Historical Society for their efforts to raise awareness and help save the depot!

Photographed on July 8. Both had places to go but only one had to give way to a new CVS.

(I don't think the CVS footprint overlaps that of the station but maybe it was too tight.)

The New Lenox depot successfully arrived at Konow's Corn Maze last Wednesday. Here it is as it appeared yesterday evening. There was some sort of unrelated event going on at the farm and many people stopped by to take a look.

Another great accomplishment in the railroad preservation field!

The Heritage Rail Alliance published an article I wrote about the depot.

I thought the article was well-written. Thanks for taking the time to write and share the article.

Glad it was moved and not razed but stupid that either was necessary. I don't see why they could not have left it in service. The CVS could have been sited differently.

The Metra Board believes that real estate development around its stations (especially where Metra owns the station grounds) is essential to the future financial health of the system. Even where expensive new Metra stations have been built with taxpayer money, the passengers are often relegated to an inadequate waiting area available only during morning rush hour while the bulk of what would be a proper station is leased out as a restaurant - the two Tinley Park stations on the Rock Island District are like that.

Of course, real estate development has taken precedence over rail user needs, to say nothing of historic preservation, for a long time. On Metra alone we have LaSalle St. Station (moved out of the way for the convenience of the CBOT), Union Station (relegated to the basement) and North Western Station (replaced by an office building atrium). North Station Boston is the worst, with no station facilities at all, just street access to the outdoor station tracks using passageways under the Boston Garden sports arena (though I think there was a ticket window or two somewhere down there).
