Post subject:  D&RGW 223 restoration video

Hello all,

The Golden Spike Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society had a video made as an update on the restoration of Denver & Rio Grande Western number 223, a Grant Locomotive Works 3-foot gauge C-16. The drivers were pulled from the frame in July and pending their machining, new brasses and boiler work reassembly will begin with most of the smaller subassemblies like the cab, domes, compressors and tender already being completed.

For those not familiar with the locomotive, it is one of only three survivors of its class and one of only two surviving Grant Locomotive Works products. It was purchased by the D&RG in 1881 at the height of the railroad boom that followed the panic of 1873 and served its entire operating life in Colorado before being donated to Salt Lake City in 1941. Today it resides at the Utah State Railroad Museum in Ogden Utah.
