From Kevin Burkholder:

"The Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad has successfully acquired both of the former Delaware & Hudson Alco S-4s from Genesee & Wyoming. The pair of Alcos, the 102 located currently in Claremont Jct., NH and the 104 in West Lebanon, NH, are being prepared for movement to Cooperstown, NY.

The units will reportedly be moved via Pan Am Railways and Norfolk Southern.

CCRR 102 - built as D&H 3050; to GMRC 305; CCRR 102
CCRR 104 - built as D&H 3036; to GMRC 303; Quincy Bay 104; CCRR 104"

Great news! I've had some good times riding #104. Glad these two gems are going to an appropriate home. Black and yellow paint up next?

The Alcos were shipped out of NH last weekend.

They are on the NYS&W in Binghamton now.

They were delivered this week and it is planned to bring them up to Milford tomorrow, Saturday 11/11. Which means the GG1s will have to be shifted.

Small point but the Leatherstocking, Chapter NRHS reporting marks for the line are CACX and equipment is moved as such.

Were these Alcos moved on their own wheels? Or did they move on somebody else's wheels (flatcars)? I would be surprised if they had alignment control couplers. Or did these 2 RR's not require alignment control couplers for a move in regular freight train service?

Moved on their own wheels, plain bearings. Don't know the details beyond that- I will try to find out.

Looks like they had a pretty serious derailment when they went to pick them up today, no injury's from what I hear.

The locos or the heavyweight cars I heard that got loose, ran away and derailed at a crossing?

What does this mean for their delivery? I wonder if foul play was involved as I can't see any good reason why this would only occur now. Do we know the extant of the damages of this moment?

Oh lord, how the heck didn't they see this happening. If you have a crossing in that condition and expect it to work perfectly; poor negligence on CACV's part. I can't believe the railroad would let someone this careless slip through. What were they thinking? It may actually have been more cost effective to just truck the equipment in.

Cameron, please do not speculate on things you know nothing about. Were you on-site? Do you have all the facts as to what happened? If not, just sit quietly and show some good manners.

Thank you,

Howard P.

Ohhhh, that's gonna be a bit of an unplanned expense. If I were to speculate, it looks like they were shoving down the west leg of the wye and came up on a paved-over crossing at State Rt 7. If so, it'll take a while for that dust to settle.... Hope someone posts some details on how it resolves for future reference.

Its worse than shoving on to a unpaved crossing, the cars ran away. Its a world of hurt now.
