Cornwall & Lebanon Railroad #12 --- Baldwin 24" Gauge 4-4-0

I am looking for some more information on this little 4-4-0 and the railroad in general, such as specs, plans, etc. on the locomotive.

The Mt. Gretna Narrow Gauge RR was in the vicinity of, but completely separate from, the Cornwall and Lebanon. This is for all functional purposes an amusement park ride versus an iron ore hauler. Internet searches should tell you more.

The three Baldwin 4-4-0s built for the line were the only two-foot-gauge 4-4-0s built for an American operation.

I believe she's the prototype for the Bachmann On30 model. It's a funky little beast.

For the sake of being picky these were not the only American built 24" gauge 4-4-0s for US operations. Crown Metal built several for use in the US.

Thanks for all the replies. The DeGolyer Library didn't come up with anything... I do think the Bachmann ON30 model does look VERY close, I think the biggest difference is that the Bachmann model has a boiler that goes clear through the cab. The original did not. I have seen the Crown locomotives before, they are very interesting.

The typical snide reply would be that the Crown Metal products wouldn't count, as they were built for amusement excursion operations rather than commercial transportation enterprises.

And that would normally be the distinction. The Mount Gretna Narrow Gauge RR, however, MIGHT hold a distinction of being among the first amusement excursion rail lines built in the U.S., as it carried no freight, only passengers to the top of Mt. Governor Dick.

So............. whatever!

Incidentally, for the 1995 NRHS Convention in Lancaster, Pa., my associate Hale Adams and I, along with Mt. Gretna historian Jack Bitner, hosted a tour of the railroad's right of way, including surviving artifacts and remnants and a climb to the top of the observation tower at the top.

There is a nice bound 12 page booklet "The Mount Gretna Narrow Gauge Railroad 1889-1915 by Jack Bitner available from the Lebanon County Historical Society.
