Not necessarily a tower, ... at a location known as Penn Junction.

Interesting piece of preservation. Do you happen to have a photo of this signal shed?

FYI - Penn Jct, in the Grand Rapids, MI area, was more than a simple signal shed at one time. GTW issued train orders at Penn Jct. I ran across a bunch of those flimsies while doing a quick sort of a RR historical society's archives last year.

It should also be noted that Penn Junction had 2 buildings. One was at the bridge where the two lines cross. This "tower" was at grade level for the GTW and raised above the GR&I and had signals for both lines. Less than a half mile west of this point was the switch for the interchange track, the building purchased by the farmer, and an interchange siding. It would be interesting to know which location was actually considered Penn Jct. in the timetable. I did read that the tower at the bridge was listed as a block limit station in a 1950's PRR timetable.

I do not have a picture of the farmers building, but there are old pictures of the tower online.
