Copyrights and authorship – So simple for a private showing at a 501c3 non-profit with an educational mission, much more complicated for public distribution. This program is a reconstruction of the program Jim developed from the article series he wrote for his employer, Carstens Publications. He did a research trip to EMD and obtained their permission to use images in the magazine article. Fast forward to more than thirty years later – Jim’s original program is not with his estate collections, it may have been disassembled or lost, the original images he worked with are scattered, Carstens is gone and certain parts of their business are now owned by White River, meanwhile EMD has gone through several transactions to now be owned by Progress Rail. So it becomes a question of who owns “rights” to what, and who had "permission" to use it (keeping in mind that I am not the original author), and whether it is worth the time and effort to sort it out for a topic already well documented in his article series. Meanwhile there are other projects that need to be completed.

By the way, the magazine articles are in Railfan & Railroad, November 1984 and January 1985. Jim was presented the 1986 David P. Morgan article award by R&LHS for his contribution to the documentation of railroad history.
