What are everyone's thoughts on the restoration of Central of Georgia 4-4-0 349 by TVRM? Does anyone know if plans are still in the works to restore one of the larger locomotives to help fill some of the void left by the 4501? Look forward to hearing what you all think.<br>

349 probably ought to live back in C of G territory in the Savannah roundhouse if the world were more perfectly attuned to historic preservation. I am setting aside a stall in the roundhouse near 403, 223 and Old Maude just in case.... but not holding my breath. <p>Central Railroad and Banking Co car #2, an original wooden office and inspection car will be arriving shortly and they would make a fine pair.<p>I don't believe that tiny kettle would have much practical application for TVRR as it wouldn't haul enough tons per mile to pay its way. Its value is as an artifact, not a working locomotive on a tourist line.<p>Dave<br>

There has been a great deal of interest from television and motion picture companies about using the 349. This alone makes the engine an excellent candidate for restoration. Not only would the musuem gain another operating engine, but one that is maintenance-friendly and capable of earning its keep without being used on a regular basis.<p>If the boiler passes its ultra sound and non-destructive testing, then it would easily be the best candidate for restoration, based on the simplicity of the engine itself. Costs are further offset by having the machinery to do all the work in-house using volunteer labor, much of which is highly skilled.<p>And, speaking for the engine crews at TVRM, don't keep that stall in Savannah empty waiting for the 349. We're awfully fond of it too! <p><br>
