Post subject:  Preservation Opportunity: Ex ATSF? Coach in Fall River MA

While checking out the Old Colony and Fall River Railroad Museum, I stopped in at the Fall River McDonald's that has what is rumored to be an ex-ATSF (or NYC?) coach attached to the building. The coach was supposed to be donated/moved to the OC&FR RRM, but since they are closing, that hasn't happened.

I took the attached pictures on 8/20/16. The folks behind the counter said that the restaurant was just sold recently, and that the new owner is not interested in keeping the car. Unfortunately, they did not have contact information for the owner.

The McDonalds is located at:
44 William S. Canning Blvd., Fall River, MA, 02721
508-678-0300

By my observation (and I am no expert) the car appears to be in pretty good shape. It does not appear that it was cut at all when it was "attached" to the building. The interior is fitted with McDonald's-style tables and chairs - so it could make a nice addition to a low-key lunch train.

Please do not contact me about the coach. I have no interest in it or any additional information. Interested parties should contact the McDonald's directly.

Web sites that mention the "McDonald's Train"...

ATSF, not NYC. The window arrangement is unlike any NYC Pullman-Standard coach, and the CS couplers and disc brakes scream "Santa Fe All The Way".

This coach is still at the McDonald's in Fall River as of Jan 2018.

This coach will be removed next week. It is not reported if the coach will be scrapped or if it has been acquired by someone:

Good news RYPN members, the Newport & Narragansett Railroad of Rhode Island will be taking this beautiful coach to new heights following its soon removal. Their spokesman, Jonathan Budzyna hopes for a full restoration of the historic ATSF passenger car once again fulfilling the job it did half a century ago. Read the full article for more details.

Well when Jonathan says 'hopes', I'm pretty confident that it'll end up back in working order again eventually. The crew down there is always working on something, whether it's in Newport or on the Seaview...
