It needs the full 1472 reverse engineering and analysis, which seems to have never been done. The roof needs its original 3/8" (now wasted to less than 5/16") sheet replaced with a 1/2" thick sheet.

Regarding the rest of the boiler, I don't know. The 1472 analysis would tell.

It's a Belpaire - roof sheet. I seem to recall some sort of lack of consistency between the PRR way of designing and the currently mandated way of calculating stresses. Kind of reminds me of all those Baldwins with 5/16" inside door sheets with damn little margin in them for loss........
