I recently received a request for info on the B&O Slumbercoaches and 16DXR-4DB Bird-Series sleepers, and there are a few cars for which I do not have disposition info. Info regarding those cars would be most welcome.

Here's what I have in my notes and source material:

24DXR-8DRM Slumbercoaches:

2 Cars, Budd, Lot #9691-211, Plan #9540, 1958:

Ordered in June 1957 and delivered in February 1958.

#7700 Slumberland retired in 1969 and sold to Ross Rowland-High Iron Company. Sold in 1982?? and converted in 1983 to HEP #2096. Retired and listed for sale in September 1996. Sold to Avalon Rail (West Allis, WI).

#7701 Dreamland retired in 1970 and sold to Ross Rowland-High Iron Company. Sold in 1982?? and converted in 1983 to HEP #2097. Retired and listed for sale in 1996. Sold to B&O RR Museum.

3 Cars, Budd, Lot #9691-090, Plan #9540, 1959:

Ordered in 1959 and delivered in May of that year.

#7702 Restland sold in 1964 to NP #330 Loch Katrine to BN #330 (planned as #1485) sold in 1971 to Amtrak #2029 converted in July 1981 to HEP #2093. Retired and listed for sale in February 2001. Sold to Grand Canyon RY for trucks and brake components, stored on cribbing. GCRY also acquired NP #326/AMTK #2025/#2088 Loch Leven for parts.

#7703 Sleepland sold in 1964 to NP #331 Loch Long to BN #331 (planned as #1486) sold in 1972* to Amtrak #2035 converted in February 1980 to HEP #2081. Retired and listed for sale in February 2001. I was not able to find any information on this car using a Google search. Current status unknown.

*Palmieri lists the acquisition date as 1972, Randall lists the acquisition date as 1974.

#7704 Thriftland sold in 1964 to NP #332 Loch Lochy to BN #332 (planned as #1487) sold in 1971 to Amtrak #2030 converted in March 1981 to HEP #2091. Retired and listed for sale in September 1996. Sold to Illinois Transit Assembly (ITAX), later Gateway. Scrapped in 2012 at Madison, IL, along with NYC #10801/NP #334/AMTK #2032/#2082 Loch Rannoch.

16DXR-4DB Bird-Series Sleepers:

11 Cars, Budd, Lot #9658-137, Plan #9536, 1954:

Ordered in November 1952 and delivered between April and June 1954. 8 cars sold to SCL in 1969, then to Amtrak.

Under Amtrak ownership, these cars were used in Slumbercoach service with #20xx-series numbers, and were renumbered to the #25xx-series for standard sleeper service. The 1985 retirement dates as listed by Warner are not when the cars were removed from revenue service, this would have been at an earlier date, as these cars were not selected for conversion to head end power (HEP), and the last steam-heated cars were removed from revenue service in early 1983.

#7100 Bobolink to SCL #6700 (1969) to Amtrak #2010 (1971) to #2530 (1976). Listed as retired in June 1985. I was not able to find any information on this car using a Google search. Current status unknown.

#7101 Cardinal to SCL #6701 (1969) to Amtrak #2011 (1971) to #2531 (1976). Listed as retired in July 1985. Sold to Illinois Transit Assembly (ITAX), later Gateway, then to Mid-America Railcar Leasing (MRLX) and stored in Madison, IL.

#7102 Gull to SCL #6702 (1969) to Amtrak #2012 (1971) to #2532 (1976). Listed as retired in April 1985. This car was owned by ITAX/Gateway before being sold to the Museum of the American Railroad (formerly Age of Steam) in Frisco, TX. The car was moved from Illinois to Texas with MRLX reporting marks.

#7103 Kingfisher sold to Ringling Brothers (1969), currently RBBX #41402, as of 2011 was in the active rotation of the Blue Unit train. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2579724

#7104 Mockingbird sold to Ringling Brothers (1969), currently RBBX #41401, as of 2011 stored at the shops in Palmetto, FL. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2579724

#7105 Oriole to SCL #6703 (1969) to Amtrak #2013 (1971) to #2533 (1975). Listed as retired in April 1985. Sold in March 1993 to the B&O RR Museum.

#7106 Quail was wrecked in March 1967 at Thurmond, WV.

#7107 Robin to SCL #6704 (1969) to Amtrak #2014 (1971) to #2534 (1977). Listed as retired in April 1985. Sold in March 1991 to an unknown party. I was not able to find any information on this car using a Google search. Current status unknown.

#7108 Swan to SCL #6705 (1969) to Amtrak #2015 (1971) to #2535 (1975). Listed as retired and sold in October 1980 to the Anbel Corporation as ANBX #2535. Anbel is/was based in Brownsville, TX, and like Edwards International in earlier years, prepped cars for resale to NdeM/SCD. However, the Swan was never resold to SCD, and as of 2009 was still stored in Brownsville: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1466054 (John Briggs photo) and http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,550353

#7109 Thrush to SCL #6706 (1969) to Amtrak #2016 (1971) to #2536 (1977). Listed as retired in April 1985. Sold to Michael G. Kelly-Southwind Rail Travel Limited, which uses SRTX reporting marks (I don't know if the Thrush was relettered SRTX or not). As of 2008, stored in Lockport, NY, with a NYC lightweight coach owned by the Niagara & Western New York RR: http://www.trainweb.org/amtrakpix/locoshots/slumbercoach/2536A.jpg (Geno Dailey photo), http://www.trainweb.org/amtrakpix/locoshots/slumbercoach/2536A.html, and http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36196

#7110 Wren to SCL #6707 (1969) to Amtrak #2017 (1971) to #2537 (1977). Listed as retired in June 1985 and sold in October 1988 to Ringling Brothers, currently RBBX #41409. As of 2011 stored at the shops in Palmetto, FL. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2579724

Cars Without Dispositions:

There are 3 cars for which I do not have any post-Amtrak information: Slumbercoach #7703 Sleepland; and 16-4 sleepers #7100 Bobolink and #7107 Robin.

If anybody knows the current status/location of any of these 3 cars, feel free to post or send a PM. Thanks in advance!

Also, any information on the post-Amtrak ownership histories or status updates of any of the 16 cars listed would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!
