A friend of mine has a steam locomotive boiler that he wants to sell. It is from a 23" gauge 0-4-0 locomotive. It was manufactured by H.K. Porter for J&L Steel locomotive 59, one of those ultra heavy 45 ton switchers that were used at the Pittsburgh Works.
The boiler is 189" overall including smokebox, has a 40" barrel diameter, 399 sq. ft. of heating surface and 9.075 sq. ft. grate area. Boiler pressure 200 psi. Current condition is fairly good with some pitting and a few questionable rivets. We have not inspected the tubes for condition. We also have been unable to find the ASME stamp, probably because we are not looking in the right place. I have photos and the builders drawing for the boiler.
It is located in northeast Ohio. He is asking $3,000 or best offer. Also has two 1 1/4" Garfield double jet injectors that would go with the boiler.
Say, Rick, don't you have some running gear that would go well with a boiler this size?
Dave
Yes, the running gear for this locomotive. Side rods & valve gear to be exact. Everything else was way too heavy to salvage, and the cylinders were broken. For those of you who aren't familiar with this locomotive, imagine a 23" gauge 0-4-0T that weighs 45 tons! The frame was solid steel- and I mean SOLID.

For comparison purposes B&H #8 weighs approx. 38 tons on 2 foot gauge!
